Bates Advanced Driving is committed to providing Defensive Driving Courses that improve the attitude and skill base of all drivers, no matter what level of experience. Our view is that road users with the correct attitude and good defensive technique , can avoid potentially hazardous situations. Our instructors also believe participants who have a better understanding of modern vehicle technology, also are able to react more effectively in an emergency situation.

Who attends Defensive Driving Courses?
People who want to update their skills… people adapting to a new car…P-Plate drivers… senior citizens wanting to refresh their driving skills.. companies with staff who spend many hours on the road… people who have been involved in car accidents… anyone who wants to raise their driver awareness levels. It doesn't matter how old you are…or how long you’ve had your licence for, a Defensive driving course will improve your ability behind the wheel. Must be licensed.

When Are Defensive Driving Courses Held?
The Defensive Driving courses are held regularly, please see proposed dates for 2012 below. We can also accommodate organisations & companies by conducting exclusive Defensive Driving Courses on preferred dates. The course is held regardless of weather conditions.

Where are Defensive Driving Courses Held?
The courses are held at the Driver Training Centre on Sutton Road not far from Queanbeyan or Canberra airport. The venue is a purpose built training facility, which includes maneuvering, skidpan and circuit areas. We can also arrange to hold Defensive Driving Courses in other venues in other states & territories. Please contact us to discuss.

How Long is the Course?
The course is conducted over a full day from 8:30am - 4:00pm. We provide morning tea, and lunch.

What Vehicle Do I Use?
Rick wants you to make the most of the Defensive Driving Course. You will do this by using the car you drive on a day-to-day basis, be a private vehicle or company car.
Gift Vouchers
Gift vouchers are available and are indeed popular gifts for Christmas, Birthdays, Mother's and Father's Day. All vouchers are valid for twelve months and are not transferable.

Cost and Payment
The cost of the Defensive Driving Course is $242.00 inc GST.
All participants will receive a certificate on the completion of the course. Our preferred methods of payment are Cash/PayPal/Cheque/Money Order or we can organise for you to direct deposit into our account.

Course Structure
Classroom Based Discussion: We start the day with a discussion concentrating on driver attitude and focus, and scenarios to improve driver technique and behavior. The course then moves outside, for hands-on practical exercises, involving the following:
• Tyres and Car Maintenance
• Seating/Posture/Steering Technique
• Following Distances
• Stopping Distances
• Emergency Braking technique
• Collision Avoidance and Lane Changing.
• Split Surface Braking
• Corner Braking
• Skid Control
• Fatigue Management
• Road Rules

How do I get onto a Defensive Driving Course?
You can either phone or email to reserve your place. An enrolment form is also available on our website which can be sent with payment. Confirmation of your booking will occur upon payment. More details on the course will then be forwarded to you closer to the actual date. Please click here to print a Defensive Driving enrolment form.

Cancellation Policy:
Our cancellation policy is as follows:
Should you need to cancel your course booking, prior to 7 days before the course, we are happy to reschedule you for another date at no cost.
Should you need to cancel your course booking, within 7 days before the course, you will be asked to pay an $80.00 re-booking fee, before another course can be booked.
Should you need to cancel your course booking, within 24 hours before the course, you will forfeit the cost of that booking.

How do I get onto a Defensive Driving Course
Option #1 - Pay online with your credit card to secure a booking. We will then contact you to confirm dates and details.

Option #2 -
Look at the dates offered above and choose which date will suit you best. Ring or email to reserve a place. Then print the enrolment form below. Please complete the form and forward it together with a Cheque or money order to the address on the form. Confirm your dates on the form. We will call you to confirm your place about a month before the course is due to be run and follow that up with a confirmation letter the week leading up to the course.

Description:  Stopping Distances: Instructors demonstrate stopping at speeds of 60 to 80 km/h. This session creates a high impact, thought provoking response from the course participants, as few drivers realise the distance it takes to stop while travelling at relatively low speeds.
